Wessel Smit is an experienced legal strategist and executive with more than 30 years of practice across corporate legal environments, regulatory compliance, and commercial governance. His career spans roles as State Prosecutor, private practice attorney, Director of Legal Services, and Head of Legal Services at African Bank, where he managed litigation, regulatory relations, due diligence, compliance structures, and a national lease portfolio of more than 500 branches. He played a key role in drafting the National Credit Act (NCA) and assisted the Egyptian Government in developing their credit legislation. Smit has negotiated commercial funding exceeding R3 billion with major international institutions and managed corporate listings on both the JSE AltX and Botswana Stock Exchange. His strengths include legal governance, negotiation, regulatory drafting, commercial structuring, and executive leadership.
